Abstract

This article examines the concept of untranslatable words—terms that are rarely directly translated into another language without losing some of their cultural or emotional nuances. It explores the unique characteristics of these words, which often emerge from specific cultural contexts and encapsulate complex emotions, experiences, or practices. The article provides examples from a range of languages and discusses the challenges of translating these terms, as well as how they reflect the worldviews of the cultures that use them. Ultimately, the article highlights the role of untranslatable words in enriching cross-cultural understanding and underscores the connection between language and culture.
